Mr. Johnson was one of the health teachers at a large rural community college in the Eastern part of the U.S. For "Alcohol Awareness Month" he made up his mind that he would concentrate on the following three topics for a class project: the symptoms of alcoholism, the signs of alcoholism, and alcoholic symptoms.

After Mr. Johnson put the final touches on the topics that would be assigned to his pupils, he determined that he would give them their assignment the following Monday morning. When "assignment day" finally came, Mr. Johnson met with the pupils in his class, distributed some related research literature, and then informed the pupils in his class about the topics he had chosen.

He then gave his class a summary of some key signs of alcoholism and noted how critical it is to gain knowledge about and learn how to associate these statistics, symptoms, and facts with the day-to-day situations of alcoholics. He then gave his students a succinct description about the importance of learning more about people dependent on alcohol and how they function on a day-to-day basis.

Mr. Johnson informed his students that they could isolate on one of the three topics or discuss all three topics and how they are interlinked. For all intents and purposes this would be not unlike a simple overview but done in a more inclusive manner.

Another selection that he presented to his class was the following: select a topic such as alcohol addiction symptoms and signs, investigate things in a more wide-ranging fashion, and then go over four or five signs and symptoms. Mr. Johnson then stated that the same logic applies to the other two topics, namely, alcoholic symptoms and the symptoms of alcoholism.

The end result of their exploration would be a four thousand word composition and then a ten minute oral presentation that would be given in front of all the members of the class. As acknowledgment for their outstanding academic success, those with the top three overall grades on the composition and on the oral presentation will be encouraged to present the end product their investigation at the regional alcohol abuse and alcoholism convention during the last eight days of February.

As acknowledged by Mr. Johnson, since there are more than a few alcohol addiction symptoms and signs to choose from, he stated that he was not excessively nervous about different students deciding upon the same symptoms and signs for their class project. Without a doubt, even if multiple students were to pick the same symptoms and signs, the illustrations that are correlated with each symptom or sign would unquestionably add enough variety to circumvent two or more pupils presenting exactly the same content.

Mr. Johnson then stated that while there are numerous alcoholism symptoms and signs that could be picked, the quantity of alcohol addiction facts and statistics that could be itemized were practically immeasurable. When the topic of alcoholic symptoms was added to the conversation, moreover, the students in the classroom apprehended somewhat swiftly that the three topics would provide an extensive amount of information from which to choose.

Why did Mr. Johnson select the signs of alcoholism, alcoholic symptoms, and the symptoms of alcoholism as the topics for this undertaking? Mr. Johnson thought that by boosting the awareness of his students about the debilitating effects of alcohol addiction and the disappointing way of life experienced by alcohol dependent people, his pupils might think more judiciously before they involved themselves in irresponsible and hazardous drinking behavior.
