Andy was a high school freshman who frequently seemed to be living on the edge. Andy had a daring personality and frequently wanted to do what his older brothers were doing. The main problem with this was that all three of his brothers were at least 21 years old and were as a consequence within their legal rights to operate a car or truck and to ingest alcohol.

Andy, nevertheless, had a tough time comprehending that as a fifteen-year-old person he should not be drinking. In fact, then again, Andy regularly drank with his high school buddies after school, primarily on the weekends.

One weekend, Andy made up his mind to drive around with some of his older buddies. One of his cronies was old enough to buy alcohol. After purchasing some beer, wine, and wine coolers, Andy and his pals went to a park and drank for something like three hours.

After drinking more or less seven glasses of wine, Andy started to feel nauseous and then vomited. When he passed out on the tennis court, one of his buddies called 911 for immediate assistance. It was fortunate that the call for emergency help was made because when his friends went to the hospital to see Andy, they were told that Andy had been exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms. In short, Andy had experienced an alcohol overdose.

After getting alcohol poisoning treatment, Andy was actually taken aback to gather that he had overdosed on alcohol because he "only" had more or less five or ten drinks. When he articulated this to the attending physician at the hospital, however, the physician notified Andy that drinking five or ten bottles of beer over a two or three hour time frame could surely be quite a bit more alcohol than can be processed by the body. The healthcare practitioner further explained how too much alcohol can cause the brain to shut down a person's breathing and that when this happens, an individual can pass away.

This was the first word of warning to Andy that he was drinking in an unsafe fashion and that there are consequences for such behavior. The physician told Andy that he was a fortunate young man because he almost perished from alcohol poisoning the previous night.

The doctor also spoke to Andy's parents and suggested that they get alcohol rehab for Andy. His parents were relieved that Andy was all right and notified the physician that they would get Andy alcohol rehab.

While conversing with his parents, Andy informed them that there must be a special reason why he did not die and that he felt a sense of thankfulness that he was still alive. He also told his parents that the weirdest part about the entire drinking situation was that he had learned about alcohol poisoning the last six week grading period at school in health class.

At the time, what his health instructor, Mr. Johnson, was teaching didn't seem to make a lot of sense to Andy. Now that he almost died, however, he felt that he should have listened more conscientiously in class and applied what he had learned to his daily living.

Andy notified his parents that he couldn't wait to go back to Mr. Johnson's classroom and express regret to Mr. Johnson for not displaying more attention to something that was as important as learning about alcohol poisoning.
