It seems that all around us things are evolving at a very rapid rate. The main contributing factor to all the change appears to be the increase in the number of individuals that live in the United States. A couple of years ago my husband and I noticed that rich people were purchasing up lots on lakes. They would find cottages on the market along the lakes area and would demolish the cottage and replace it with a massive brand-new structure. We noticed several smaller lakes which we liked fishing on were suddenly surrounded by huge homes. One lake in particular we noticed this happening on. The big homes took away the north woods feeling from the lake. My husband and I had talked about finding cottages on the market that we could update and have as a get away. We decided that the way properties were selling we had better make our move for cottages on the market while there were still some available.

You see, years prior we had experienced a similar scenario in the shore city of Santa Barbara. For years, we vacationed there and stayed in Santa Barbara hotels. We saw people renting cottages rather than stay in the rather expensive Santa Barbara hotels, and decided to look into a cottage rental to avoid paying high rates at these Santa Barbara hotels. Well, looking to rent a cottage turned in to wanting to buy, however, we waited too long and the market took off, with prices rising outside of our range. We vowed never to make the exact same mistake again.

We determined one Saturday afternoon to go for a drive around two lakes that we've always enjoyed. One of the lakes is very large and the other was smaller, but there is a channel which goes from this small lake in to a bigger lake. A good portion of this lake and the outlying area were in a national park. We had been cross country skiing in the national park during the winter months and we had noticed that there were numerous privately owned cabins adjacent to the state land. We talked about how private the area was. We went back to the area to see if anything was available for purchase. We turned down one little road that we had never been on before. The road led to what had once been a small resort. There were signs listing cottages for sale. The resort had been shut for many years. The majority of the buildings were in need of repairs. Two of the cottages available had been modernized within the past six to seven years. The cottages were close to the shore of the lake and were surrounded by pine trees. It was a very pretty setting, but we were worried about who would do the upkeep on the road when it snowed. We are still looking at cottages for sale. I am aware that it is only a matter of time before we find the perfect place for us.
